OUR PROGRESSES AND EFFORTS
Sep 5th, 2007 by CaptainB
First of all we are very happy to share the progress about the water truck’s purchase plan. I have asked the factory ( PT. Astra) to start with building/making water truck for us . We already have more than 50% of the required funding to be paid and we will pay the rest in the form of installments for 3 years . We will do our best and hoping that we can pay up the loan much less 3 years for it. It will be Izuzu Elf PS 120, double wheels at the rear and will be able to carry 5000 liters of water per trip. We are trying to choose a good color combination and planning to write some names or draw picture of people who have been helping us with the funding that have been collected so far. The down side of a car purchase was the 100% increment of the car’s insurance that we have to pay since September 1st 2007 by the government ( during the 3 years leasing term, instead of 8 million Rupiah to 16 million Rupiah. That is why we made the order on August 31st to avoid the the increment). A complete water truck is priced as 198.400.000 Rupiah , for our orphanage we were given a discount of 13 000 000 Rupiah so the net price is 184 900 000 Rupiah. Additional cost from bringing the water truck from Jakarta to Surabaya is around 2 500 000 Rupiah by road and from Surabaya to Timor by ferry will be around 10 000 000 Rupiah. The insurance is about 8 000 000 Rupiah ( for the 3 years period). Anyway we are hoping we will be able to have this water truck fast thus we can help out the orphanage with enough clean water and also helping the orphanage’s neighbors. With having enough water I am sure that the health condition at the orphanage will be fantastic , the plants will be healthier and sanitation can prevails. There will be less children being sick and more crops can be planted all year round. Please continue to pray for the progress of this water truck matter.
My wife(Peggy) and I have managed to buy 2 brand new motor cycles cash for the workers. The workers paying us back with 50% of each payment that they are getting for the work that they have completed until the amount is paid off.
one of the happy worker on his new motor cycle
By doing so the workers do not have to pay any interest to the motor cycle’s shop. Usually people buying the motor cycle by credit for 3 years . During the 3 years period they must pay about 35% more than its real value. For example the motor cycle was priced 14 million Rupiah and the workers must pay some 20 million in total if they are buying it from a shop. By doing so we are actually helping the workers for not paying any extra cost as we bought the motor cycle in cash. Instead of finishing the payment in 3 years , the workers can finish the payment in less than one year. The village people using their motor cycle to earn additional money by acting as a taxi but using a motor cycle instead of a car. Glad to be able to help.
A friend was asking us to look for a village’s female student aged 14 years old. The girl is meant to be a friend to his only daughter to go to school, to study and to play while at home. Praise The Lord that we were able to find one village’s girl to be my friend’s daughter’s companion. It is hard to be able to send and to finance a child to study in Jakarta for a Timorese family. The girl ( Ryla) is now in Jakarta and studying at a good school and enjoying a good live with my friend’s family. Glad to be able to help . Her parents is still searching woods and to sell it to the market daily. Peggy and I have been giving advices to both the children about how to do her best to study and come home to the parents as soon as possible with such a success in her study and we were also advising the parent to be great full and thankful for their daughter’s progress in live. Beside Ryla we were able to find jobs for 3 village girls. Peggy and I personally escorting them from Timor to Jakarta and trained them before they are starting their job at my other friend’s place. So through the orphanage we are able to help others in need. Not necessary in the form of giving cash but helping them by finding them jobs, sending them to study and to assist people have a better progress in life.

Our newest baby orphan Alexandro Bupe is progressing well by gaining its weight and healthy. Every one like him and adore him. For Alexandro daily care he is having a constant tender loving care by non other than Tassya ( our second daughter). Tassya enjoying her holiday ( school breaks) for the last 6 years by helping her mother looking after the little orphans . Most of the earlier babies were also looked after by Tassya when they came to the orphanage. Many nights Tassya was even taking care of Alexandro and Sonny by her self all night long. It means a several time of waking up every time the baby wants to drink milk. She has been doing it even before I was arriving and during my present through out.
During my trip toTimor we were having some friends visiting the orphanage as far as from Jakarta ( sis Poppy) , Holland ( sis Ros Lemmers) and even from Seattle ( sis Nanik) . Some friends from Kupang it self were also making a trip to see us too. It was great to be able to meet up with them All. Some was luck because when they came I happened to find our jack fruit ripen on its tree and directly to serve it to them. it was so sweet and most of all it is an organic one.
Beside the sweet jack fruit , the children were also enjoying a nice cake ( special from Medan) which was sent by sis Cucu Felita all the way from Medan. The orphanage children were really great full and enjoying the ” bika ambon” cake .
Two boxes of books and toys were sent by sis Vera Nugroho for the orphanage’s library . Indeed the blessings has been great for our orphanage . Thank you sis Vera Nugroho. Your gifts are not only making the orphanage children happy but many more are able to enjoy them ( the village’s children).
