If our target is 1000 buckets for a year , we have reached more than 500 buckets in two months time. Some 300 and 220 buckets are  on its way to Roslin orphanage as you all read this entry. We expect them to reach us  in 2 weeks time ( by truck to Surabaya  and by  ship from Surabaya to Timor then to us ) . Our thanks to the wonderful friends from Bandung ( whom do not want their identity being revealed) and who have organized the shipment yesterday. Your genuine loving acts will be reaching the ultimate receiver soon. Praise The Lord.

Soon we will be able to make lots of trips to the village area and giving away the proposed plastic bucket accordingly.

Beside the plastic buckets , our wonderful friends from Bandung city also sending us such high quality cakes and other snacks to Roslin Orphanage . We cannot stop to be thankful for the blessings being sends by The Lord through all of you. The cake and others are just so good and even during my own upbringing I never have the chance to tasted them . Praise The Lord for His love the orphanage children.

We hope that we can do the same with the mosquito nets soon ( the material is still yet to reach us from Java) .

Up date on plastic buckets and mosquito nets efforts:

Praise The Lord we will have at least 200 plastic buckets can be distributed soon . With these plastic buckets we will be able to help villagers to have a much better water storage in their house hold.  Praise The Lord also for the material for us to make the mosquito nets is on its way from Jakarta to the orphanage. With the mosquito nets we will be able to help the villagers from being contracted with Malaria or Dengue or anything that mosquito can bring.

For each plastic bucket we will label it with the name of the person or organization who donated it to the villagers. Our children at the orphanage is also eager to make the mosquito nets asap. They are not only eager to practice to use a sewing machine but they are eager to do it because some of the mosquito nets will be sent to their family ( siblings) as well. It will be an meaningful efforts to them ( even though they can not contribute a financial matter to their family , they can contribute to their family’s well being or improving health matter).

We hope that the mosquito net’s materials will be arriving soon.

Up date on our orphanage children:

We are so much richer now ,not only we are having more children but the children are more knowledgeable.  The children are showing such a good progress with their schooling results. For those who were weak with their academic knowledge , at the recent result of their school report , they have shown us a huge improvements, Praise The Lord indeed. It was worrisome to us for some of them are rather slow in their ability to absorb their academic knowledge but with a constant efforts we are now so happy. We are not intending all of them to be a straight A students but we want them to be at least knowing what supposed to be known according to their age group. Indeed we want them to be just a normal students but we are so blessed that some of them are really making a good rank in their class . Desy Tanono is rank 2nd in her class even though she has been doing all the house routine duties and helping us to look after some of the smaller children. Kevin ( primary two)  and Dede ( primary one) are also making us proud, they are both able to get the rank 1st and 2nd in their classes.  Praise The Lord.

The good school results is a direct effect of the playground facilities that we have built recently, The children are studying hard but they are also able to have fun too.  With having some sort of balance on studying hard and having fun enough , we are convinced that in the long run we will have brighter students and more capable children. The joy that we have is not limited to the current schooling students but also for having the preschool students able to read and write as well. The funny facts , some of the preschool children are actually able to write better than the schooling ones. This fact will be a big bonus to us as we will be sure upon the future facts that we will be having when the preschools are joining their schooling ones. There won’t be any frustration for them upon learning how to read and write in school, Praise The Lord.

We were having 48 children in November 2009 but with some of the recent developments and your participation, we are blessed with a better capabilities. At the moment we are able to look after 66 children at the orphanage and some 18 more children are waiting to be joining us when we are able to get the girl’s dorm done. It will be great if we can have a proper shelter for them rather than having them cramped with the current facilities.  Some cases has been helping us more on our faith. It was not too long ago we were receiving a donation of baby clothes from  twins . It was soon after that we are joined by a twin babies. Things are seemed to be well prepared and the timing has been managed by The Lord Him Self. we cannot complain as things are being provided timely. This is not the first case but every time we are in the need(s) , God is always providing us with what we need(s) .  Praise The Lord. The fact is even better because the way on God providing us is not with such a mediocre way but He provided us with such a total remedial way(s). Indeed we are so blessed.

So far they must go far to get water for their cooking and drinking water. They use old plastic jerrycans of cooking oil or paint. With these two items the villagers  to walk and carry water for them to take home. Every time they need water , then they must again to the water source and at the time of return can only carry small quantities of water. They want to have adequate water storage at home but they are not able to make it or buy it

This is the type of water that the people are collecting , without a place to make it subsiding it will be a very bad kind of water that they must consume it and no other choice.

How to help them.

1 .   We can help them by giving them a large plastic bucket with a lid as their  clean water reservoirs. The size of the bucket’s capacity of 100 Liter. By having clean water supplies at home so they can better utilize their time (no need to go to the water resources early in the morning when the kids want for school or when they want to cook). Plastic bucket was able to give them shelter from dust and to avoid the possibility of mosquitoes to breed.

If the water reservoirs ( storage)  is not closed then the dog or cat can drink from water reservoirs. This is very dangerous and there are likely people will be infected by a virus transmitted by dogs or cats (or by a bacterial disease that exist in air)
Given a closed plastic buckets, the villagers will be able to avoid its possible contaminated water or infected by various diseases that come from his dirty drinking water).

Large plastic bucket for them will be difficult to be bought and taken it back to their village. First they have to go into town and buy it, then buy her a plastic bucket and later they should bring them back to their village. Cost for them to go into town alone have been hard they get. To bring a big bucket home they have to pay around 40 000 rupiah or USD $ 4 on top of the fee for the person.

If they go to town , for one way they must  pay about 50 000 (if the return trip is the 100 000 rupiah), locally the price of a 100 L bucket is 95 000 rupiah, plus the cost of bringing home buckets of 40 000 rupiah then for sure they will not be able to afford it.

2. How to help the second one is providing them with a mosquito net. This mosquito nets to prevent them from contracting malaria. It is an epidemic thing for this area.
It would be good if we could give each of two mosquito nets for every family of the village.  A mosquito net will cost about 50 000 rupiah each.

If you want to provide a village family with a bucket and two of this mosquito net, the price is  around 195 000 rupiah, or about 20 USD.
Or
If anyone wants to provide in the form of buckets and mosquito nets then please send it  to the Roslin Orphanage  and we will help to distribute them to the village.We can distributed them together with our mobile library visits to the village area.

Your 20 USD will be able to help a family greatly. The plastic buckets will last at least for 5 years and the mosquito nets may be about 2 years.

More and more people in the rural being given this help the village people will be  healthier.

Roslin Orphanage has committed to buy 50  sets so far  ( USD 1000 ) but  lots more families to be helped.

Please help if you can.

Any amount will be greatly appreciated and it will directly be given to the ultimate receivers.

Daniel during his book launching

I have been blessed for having so many friends and so far they are either good friends or a very good friends,
Praise The Lord.
Not too long ago I came to know a special friend who was having so much difficulties upon raising their son, Daniel.

Daniel was born with Specific Language Impairment.
Unfortunately, schools at that time could not cater to his needs and he was quickly ‘labelled’ by teachers as being autistic and retarded.They were probably ignorant of his condition.
Cases of bullies attacking him in school were not uncommon.

Daniel communicated through doodling.
Doodling was his way of mind-mapping his work and expressing himself.

His parents sent him for medical examinations in Singapore.
They  approached GPs medical consultants, speech therapists, educational therapists, educational psychologists, and even a psychiatrist.

Daniel  underwent several WISC-III test at different age levels and it was concluded that he demonstrated a low verbal IQ but a high performance IQ.
The discrepancy between the two IQs was so wide that the full-scale IQ could not be determined.
As a result of the wide discrepancy between his verbal and performance (non-verbal) skills
which had in some way hindered him  in his expression yet he fared better than most of his  peers in terms of learning performance.

They spent a great deal of money on professional help and therapy sessions for him to overcome his speech impairment and emotional setback from schools but little was achieved.
On top of his specific language impairment, he was wounded by various traumatic school related experiences. So instead of seeing progress, he regressed.
Despite of all these obstacles, he has never failed in any of his subjects.

It was from the age 8, when he was in Primary 3
that  my friend  decided to withdraw Daniel  from school and home-school him instead.

They  were glad to meet Professor Noel KH Chia in 1997 who  assessed Daniel and advised the mother  how to help the little boy  to enhance his expressive language development while continuing with the mainstream study program.

With these early intervention tips, the mother  tried doing oral sensory intervention at home with him.The mother , Janette bought books about home-schooling, phonics and resources  for a Late Talker. Day after day she is teaching Daniel and it is proven that the unconditional love from parents are priceless.
Eventually, he progressed from short phrases to clauses to fluent speech.

His dad, an airline pilot brought him on field trips to the open Safari in Johanesburg,  to New Zealand to watch the whale, dolphin, farming and orchard to pick apples.
Daniel spent a lot of time feeding and playing with the animals and to be with nature which is part of his love for science.
While other children of his age is learning in school.

Back home, his dad would spend time with him in their garden building simple machines in science, go fishing and occasionally jogging with him .

Many who have met him not knowing his background, would not have known because Daniel does not exhibit the slightest trace of specific language impairment. In fact, he also speaks proper English and not Singlish.

Daniel is a simple person who cares, and has a heart for the less fortunate because he understands life through his frustrating experience in past decade.
Since he was 8, he has been involved in community service.
His parents  wanted him to see that there are many more unfortunates out there and that he is not alone in his struggles.

At the age of 14, he has compiled his Science notes and added comical illustrations to engage kids to read and make learning Science fun and entertaining.
His dad, provided  S$50,000 as seed money for Daniel to set up  an Enterprise Company  –
Smart Children-Oriented Resourceful Enrichment Services (SCORES)

With the help from the family, his  teachers and the Mayor , Central Singapore  Community Development Council , the book,“Dan’s Dynamic Dictionary on Science”  (1st Edition) was born.

With his doodling expertise he is able to help so many children in learning science through visualization.

Recently, I was invited to a Forum jointly organized by Central Singapore CDC and National Library Board , Singapore.
The Guest-of-honour, Mr Zainudin Nordin , Mayor of Central Singapore District; Daniel , the author of Dan’s Dynamic Dictionary on Science,
Dr Noel Kok Hwee CHIA, an assistant professor with the Early Childhood & Special Needs Education Academic Group, NIE/NTU Singapore, Janette Chan-Ng  the mother  were on the Panel discussion hosted by Keith D’Souza of 938 Live Singapore.

At 17 , he is now pursuing a diploma in Molecular Biotechnology
and his entry into Ngee Ann Polytechnic also marks his first full-time school experience.

Daniel is indeed a blessing not only to the family but also to so many people.

Doodling has made him being unacceptable in school .
It is his doodling skill that enables him to help himself and others.

Today, as a Youth Social Entrepreneur, he helps to fund non-profit organizations and
students from low-income families from his book  sales.

Indeed it is a remarkable youth social entrepreneur with a big heart.

With the publication of his second edition, he  hopes to further his social entrepreneurship still.
My friend Daniel , his family and I , hope his story will be an inspiration to others.

It was last year that bro Mark Lee , sis Serene and son Jabez visited u. It was  such a great time that we were having . Last march this family came again with another 15 wonderful friends and sharing their precious time with us. The group was consist of bro Mun Choon Lee mark , sis Chong Siew Lee Serene, kai Ming Lee Jabez, Jasper Ong ,Hui Ting Chua Jasmin, Hong Yen Chua, Chaw Mie Lin  Kelly , Pek Soon Low Edwin, Wen Shong A Low Levin, Teo Chee Beng Fred , Lee Leng Leng, Teo Wee Kiat Joshua  , Tan Bee Kim Helga , Ong Jia Ming Matthew , Chee Wai Chin, Kui Lai Fong, Bryan Chin and Daniel Chin.

So much joy were made and so much laughter were generated with their visit. At the orphanage the group were teaching the children about making some handy craft , playing games , singing together and so much more.Out side the orphanage the group were helping us to bring some joy to the village children by giving them some gifts. Indeed it was so much blessing for every one. Praise The Lord.
