Roslin Orphanage Blog

It was a beautiful flight since I left Singapore on March 20th all the way to Kupang city. The captain of the plane is my neighbor at my first Jakarta’s house. Captain Karyadi since some 27 years ago and I were having some long chats and catching up . I was so exited as it will be a long trip of 23 days and so much have been planned while I am there. Upon my arrival at Kupang ” Eltari Airport ” I was surprised by not being able to find my Peggy picking me up . Her phone was unreachable and I wasn’t informed if she is or she is not coming to pick me up ( no message as well on my hand phone). I got the answer by calling my father in law Cornelis who was at the orphanage that Peggy and some of the orphanage’s members were leaving for Oefafi village some two hours ago , to pick up a newly born baby . When I was just about to take a cab , our bro Godlief Rehyaar ( the orphanage’s care taker if we are away) came to pick me up and confirming that Peggy has gone to pick up a newly born at Oefafi village. She pick up a newly born baby girl which later on we named her as Anastassya Martina . She was only 18 hours old when she came to join the orphanage. Her umbilical cord was still attached and gradually changing it’s colour into pale white and in the process of drying up.

After 3 days baby Martina was fine and we brought her back and she is now progressing well and healthy . Our special thanks to the Singapore Motherhood’s Forum for helping us with the supply of baby’s and children’s clothing ,so we have no worries and shortage of these clothing at any time when a newly born baby is joining the orphanage and in fact we are also able to give away to a family which having a newly born. I hope I can see you All on this up coming 27th during the gathering. As we all read this Peggy is currently distributing clothing and note books with writing utensils at Oeleu village ( some 160 km away from the orphanage and will up date you with the picture later on). We were helped by bro Yudhistira Juwono some 5000 writing/note books to be given away some time ago and we are giving the gradually and timely. Thank you bro Yudhistira Juwono, your books really traveling far to places which where a note book is really difficult to get.

Our activities at the orphanage during this trip was mainly rearranging the library and believe me that it is not that easy to be librarian . Upon grouping the books and making the categories is a hard thing to do especially if you are doing it alone ha ha ha . We are very lucky that on the next day we are having bro Daniel Cha , his daughter Naomi and handsome Hux ( Lim Hui Xiang) came to help us . They were arriving only the next day after my arrival . With their help so much more things were done and including making the plastic covers to the shelves and to the tables. With these plastic covers the books will be almost free from the dust which will be very bad during the dry season.

It was hard task for all of us upon rearranging the books as non of us are librarian. The books mainly bought from Gramedia book shop , the biggest book shop in all cities in Indonesia. The last purchased was some 7000 SGD worth of books and it was the gift from The Rotary Foundation for this ‘Bolelebo” library. many more books were given away or even directly sent to the orphanage by friends . While I was there a box of book was sent by bro Phillipus Basuki and that was his second package of books that he has sent to us .

It is great to be having more collection of books of any kind . Any time we can explore new things and learn more from so many kind of books that are available at our library. The question is , are we willing to learn more things ? That is the challenging matter for us to encourage people ( especially the young) to read more and to spend more time reading about new knowledge and things. It will be a sad thing if they do not use the library which is available already and free of charge.

Since our library has been arranged by me , bro Daniel Ca and Hux which we are not librarian , for any real librarian who will be coming ( if any) this library arrangement will be a major task for you .
