The day can be started as early as 04 00 am with some tasks for different children . All of us are part of the family who must do their parts upon fulfilling the needs of all.  Some bigger girls are assigned to the laundry , while some are meant to do the cleaning of the different parts of the building, the garden, watering the vegetable , washing the car and feeding the animals.  Other that taks we can also just stay at the orphanage for at dinner and sharing our moments with all of the children. Each of the orphanage's members are players of which the roles will be changed after a certain periods of time. All will be doing what others are doing and by doing so the children will be able to train themself to do all of the necessary duties like in a normal house hold .  The activities can be varries depending on the weather and the priorities on that day . An afternoon can be just stay at the orphanage but it can be changed in a sudden if the farm is needing more man power. All will be ready to do whatever being deemed more important to be done. On a weekend we can be at the farm from AM to AM ( like what we just did during the land clearing and land fencing) . We were so eager to finish the tasks on making the fence and forgotten about the timing. It was only because the generator was running out of fuel , we were actually being stop from doing it further on that day ( it was passed midnight when it happened).

This is also being done by volunteers when they are staying with us .

For those who love to play with the children or practicing their ability to teach the pre schooling children  are welcome at Roslin orphanage . It is a very interesting to play as well as to study about children at this age . Sometime we are getting some ideas to do things based on their spontanious words or behavior.

Mrs Candy Dilley and her daughter Ms Kaylee Dilley from Edmonton (  Canada ) ,were helping to wash the school uniform even though without a washing machine. Also both of these lovely friends were helping us with arranging lunch for the children. They came from their home town to Kupang by means of taking 4 different flights and about 30 hours flight time. Our thanks to them both and We really appreciated and thankful for their visit. It is their 4th weeks with us since their arrival now.

activities after school for the older ones

our mini garden next to the orphanage with some banana trees, This is the wrong spacing if you want to have a proper banana farm, It should be at least 5 or more meters apart. This is ok just for seedling and later we must take our all the new trees and to be planted with correct separation in between trees at the farm.  Our new farm of which dedicated for the banana is 25 000 M2 . If you ever visit us in the next 1 month or 2 , you can help us to plant some of the 1000 banana trees. A year later if you are able to come again , you may help us to harvest our daily banana harvest ( which will be at least 100 trees a day for the whole year).

Peggy explaining about the importance of having the proper knowledge about fertiliser. Some people have an idea that if we want to have a better plants and the harvests we must use more fertiliser . It is wrong to be so abusive with fertiliser usage . Too much fertiliser is actually creating a toxic environments and it is not good for the health. We are encouraging the children to use more natural fertiliser like the cow dunk and humus from the dead leafs of other degradable materials rather than a chemical fertiliser.

This garden briefing or farm briefing has been  a very good moment for us to let them now so many things as the atmosphere is so relax and we are doing things together. They will ask anything and everything until they are firm with the messages being passed to them. For some farming matters we are actually learning from them too.  Indeed it is a very good moment to learn from each other.

Doing their home work right after their lunch

Our mangoes

Our evening after dinner can be fun especially on weekends and now with the large hall that we are having we can really have lots of fun.  On this particular weekend we were just staying put after dinner and we were having mangoes together.  It was so good that we are able to eat our own mangoes. Planted by Peggy and I from grafted trees.  It was since the second year of planting the mangoes has been giving us fruits . Every day all of the trees are being watered by the children without fail, it is great that we can have enough fruits for every one .
