TODAY'S UP DATE FROM THE NEWLY OPENED FARM
TODAY WE HAVE STARTED WITH THE DRAGON FRUIT TREE PLANTING
IT'S ALWAYS A GREAT AND A PRODUCTIVE WEEKENDS TO ALL OF US BY DOING FARM WORK TOGETHER . IN TIME IT WILL BE GREAT HARVEST TO ALL OF US
The dragon fruit planting has been delayed for almost 2 years as the designated location was too rugged and not suitable for planting the dragon fruit. It is now that we planted as the rainy season is about to finished . If you ask why we are planting it towards the beginning of the dry season then the answer will be the specific or the properties which in the dragon trees it self . The Dragon fruit tree is an ephyfit of which only needing a little amount of water. The best example are plants which are growing on the desert.
We are planting the white and red dragon fruit and in time we will also plant the yellow ones. Dragon fruit will be very suitable for our farm's condition of which we are having lots of sun and not much of big trees to give enough shade to these dragon fruit trees.
The main thing is the pillars where the trees can climb and the pillar will be strong enough to handle 4 trees ( one on each sides) . Dragon fruit trees can live for up for 20-25 years and will be pruductive all of its life as long as we are taking care of it by making the condition healthy and free from damaging deceases or particular insects .
From the tiny flower being started , the tree will be able to give us fruit some 33 days later ( for the white and the red types). There are two types of yellow Dragon fruit , one is with spikes and one without. The one with spikes are grown in South America ( more expensive because it takes 60 to 63 days to be harvested ) while the one type is in Asia and Australia ( the same 33 days as the white and the red).
Please come in 12-15 months time from now , we shall have lots of fruits to share it with you.
We must make sure that only one branch is going up . If there are more than one we must cut it . We will allow the trees to have branches only after the trees are above the pillars . Most of the fruits will be on the dangling part of the branches.
Beside planting the Dragon fruit we are also harvesting some of the trees which we are planting them as a trial on this farm. We are still not sure what will be the best crops to grow beside the known the peanut which in 3 weeks time we will do the harvest for it. After these trials and the first harvest , we will be able to decide which tree to plant and what will be best to do after the harvest. We are hoping that we will be able to produce enough harvest from this land and to process it as it will be better to sell it as a finished product rather than raw materials.
As the children continue to plant the Dragon fruit trees , Peggy was harvesting some veggies to be cooked on the spot for their dinner . Should you are there , the veggies are so great and so fresh . Do join us one day
One thing that we are sad was we just found some of the hidden pumpkin. We have been harvesting some hundreds of them and cook them but when we were at the farm again we found quite abit of the pumpkins which were hidden under some thick bushes or huge stones. Well we can still use them for making the seeds which will be planted on the next season.
One thing which was giving us a surprise was the onion, It was not planned to be good so we planted just at a small area only . To our surprise it was growing well.
Our weekends are really great by doing things together as much as possible
More plants yet to be planted in the near future . Our goals can be as high as possible but " All " are started from small yet we must not delaying things as no time to be wasted
The next few more months we shall have papaya harvest as the papaya trees are growing well and all plants are healthy . With minimum efforts we shall have good and healthy trees which lots of fruits will be produced from from them.
We have planted good quality of jack fruit trees too , now they are still so small and we must take care of them carefully. The seeds were gotten from a delicious fruit which we bought and after eating the fruit we were keeping the seeds and later we get them planted . For jack fruit , growing from the seeds we will need some 3,5 to 4 years for the tree to give us its first fruit.
We have some mango trees as well. For mangoes we will need at least 4 years or more for its fruit unless if we are using the other grafting method. AS seen on the picture below, we are using lots of cow dunk only at this farm.
PRAISE THE LORD FOR ALL BEING MADE GOOD
