MY TRIP IN EARLY JUNE 2011
It was a great trip as always and the trip to Roslin Orphanage,Kupang, has been a trip that we can make our stresses gone . It is always a refreshing trip to me and actually to almost all who are visiting the place. For start my flight was on time when we left Jakarta . A tip for all of us if you want to have your flight departing on time , please take the earliest flight from Jakarta. Most of my flights have been on time unless if the weather at the destination is bad .Other than that it will take off on time. In flight I was having quality time with the crew who were operating the flight and in fact the first officer's wife was one of our house's tenant whom we have known her and the first officer ( Dika) for a long time when they were still dating. Indeed a lot to catch up.

after arriving safely in El Tari Airport , Kupang
Kupang during the month of June , July and August is having its best weather condition. This is because of the effect from the southern hemisphere winter. Our June morning temperature will be around 21 C and July morning temperature will be 19 C . In this kind of weather usually we are doing some work at the rice fields some 3-4 weeks after the harvest. It is so nice too staying in a tent at the farm where we will be feeling the air being so cool and fresh at night and during the day we don't feel too hot either.
This time I was bringing so many toys which were donated by our friends from Singapore,Miss Sandy ,Miss Fay yeoh and another person which I did not get here name. Thank you for the toys and especially your kindness and your willingness to help out and sharing what you have with us.

This time we are so blessed with some banana harvest at the orphanage land and also at our Christati home stay . One day we were cutting down some banana trees of which we cannot finish them all . For that reason it is quite common we are having banana for breakfast , lunch and dinner too. as they are ripe on its trees, the sweetness is so good and the content of the carb are plentiful. This is also reminds me during my childhood where we were only able to have one meal a day but our food being substitude by banana and so many other fruit trees that we were having at that time. For this reason we are planting the ideas to the orphanage children to be diligent and caring to our land with the plantations on it. If we are sweating enough to the land , the land will be able to give us a good harvest too. This time of the year we were having some papaya and some bread fruit. By mid or end of July we will be having some ripen jack fruits which will be able to be unpluck from the trees.

Beside banana and others we are so blessed with the plentiful harvest of paddy ( rice) of which we are enjoying newly harvested rice to eat every day. We will dry bags of rice under the sun then mill them right after. It is so good for all of us to be able to eat organic rice and eveb better it is our own rice.

Gerson the orphan who is strudying at the medical school at 6th semester off loading bags of rice from the car. On the right is another orphanage children Dani who is studying at the maritime school. This is bags of rice that can be carried by our car at one go ( about were 39 bags and each bag is about 25 kg) . We hope one day we will be able to have a truck to bring all the harvest from our farms ( rice, banana, tapioca and veggies).

This time we are having some visitors from UK, USA and Australia with us . Some just found our website and coming without our knowledge. The reason is nothing but wanting to participate with our day to day activities. They are from different walks of life and from far away places. It is indeed so joyful to have them around and being our new friends. Luke , Shally and Becky are teachers while Danielle is a professional wind surfer. Instead of spending their time in Bali ,they all came to Kupang and helping us with whatever we have from one day to another. On the 29th Christine ( our eldest daughter) will be having her elementary school friends coming to Roslin Orphanage too. Praise The Lord for making Roslin orphanage to be a place where friendship can flourish and peacefulness can be exercised.

I am a retired high school teacher who shared the story of Budi Soehardi as a CNN hero and the Roslin Orphanage the last two years I taught. What a wonderful and inspiring story! Although I was widowed 8 years ago I have a wonderful step-daughter, but no grandchildren. If I could find a way, might the children like a visit from a young acting grandmother type? What language do the children speak?
