2000 PAIRS OF SHOES FOR THE SCHOOL CHILDREN IN THE REMOTE AREA FROM " LANGKAH KASIH"

This love gift from " Langkah kasih" in the form of shoes is the best gift as the temperature in this place can be 4- 8 degrees Celsius during the evening or morning time.
It was some 6 months ago we Peggy and I went to so many schools and giving each of the school children a blank A4 size piece of paper to draw their feed . It was some 6 months ago we were being contacted by a group of rather young entrepreneurs who are having their hearts for the less fortunate children. We were asked to get some data about the number of school children in the remote area of which a pair of shoes will be well appreciated if we are giving it to them. Some six months ago we came with a hope for a helping hands to come and handing over some shoes for the school children at so many school of which to many of the local people they are unknown about their where about and their existence . " Langkah kasih" is not an organization ( yet) but rather a mutual intention of the group members to share what they have with the less fortunate children .
" Langkah kasih " member , Intan Jingga explaining to us that they are a group of proud and young Indonesian citizens who want to enhance the schooling children for not dropping out from the school by giving the children an encouragement and to remind them that the children ( students) are not forgotten and there are people who care about them. This trip is an efficient trip as we can be at few places ( schools ) at one go. The best of all , we can give the shoes according to their exact sizes ( we took the measurements some 6 months prior to our trip) . When the shoes were coming , we were being help by sis Susan and bro John Nickle of Pelita harapan plus 8 more friends who happened to be at the orphanage were helping us to carry the shoes boxes and putting it at the safe place at our multipurpose hall. Thank you sis Susan and bro John and also to all of your group members.
Peggy and few of the older orphanage children were leaving the orphanage at 03 00 am for enabling them to reach the designated schools to be visited on Nov 23rd during their schooling hours. It was taking them some 4,5 hours to reach the summit area of Mutis Mountain . Their arrival to the first school was not expected and both teachers and the students were almost forgotten about our promise to them of giving shoes to each of the children according to their sizes. Some were curious and mixed faces were greeted Peggy and the rest of the group without a firm idea why Peggy came again.
When Peggy told the teacher and the students why they came , suddenly joyful atmosphere were loudly broke the silence. Happy faces and happy mood were seen on each of the school members ( the teachers and the students ). Praise The Lord for using " Langkah kasih" and Roslin orphanage members to be made as His instruments for passing His love to these school children. Thank you brother Charles Jayasaputra, sis Intan Jingga , sis Merry Lim , bro Danny Subroto and your other members. Your love gift of shoes are reaching and being received by the ultimate receivers with such joyful appreciation. This first village is the most end of town at Mutis mountain area. There is no through road after this village other than deep cliff. The shoes are so precious gift as the temperature in this area can reach 4 - 8 degrees Celsius during the evening and morning hours ( especially in June - July) .
There were 3 schools being visited on this first trip and a lot more schools will be visited before Christmas time by Peggy and some of the older Roslin Orphanage's children. Some 500 pairs of shoes have been distributed , some 1500 more shoes to be delivered. Any of you are keen to join us to distribute them , please do so. On this trip we were having a set of television crew who was supposed to make some filming about the orphanage came along on this shoes distribution. It is always nice to have more friends when we are making such a trip to the village area. Simply we can say as " the more the merrier " .
Next year we are hoping to be able to give more shoes and may be some other items to encourage the students for not quiting from their schooling. Please join our efforts if you have the time for it.
This time our mobile library is not delivering books as usual but we are using it to transport the shoes . Prasie The Lord for having this multipurpose bus . This bus was a gift from " Yayasan Tunas Cendekia " of which headed by bro Yudhistira Juwono. There is no partision inside the bus , so when the bus making a steep climb , Peggy and some of the orphanage children must hold the pile of shoes to stay . Also when the bus is making a steep turn , the shoes were " dancing " to the left and right. On the returning trip the bus was so spacious and Peggy and the boys/ girls can relax all the way .
We must share the sad thing which is happening to all schools in most of the remote places within West Timor area. It is great to see the primary 1 ( elementary 1) classes being filled up with students BUT it is so sad to see only a handful of students when we are visiting the primary 6 ( elementary 6) classes. So many drop outs with minor reasons such as not having shoes to go to school, not having uniform to go to school or the children being asked to help their pafrents to work at the farm at the very young age. We are hoping in the future we will be able to help to eliminate these minor factors for them to drop out from their schooling.
